Textile Ministry has proposed the central Government that the 'textile committee cess' should be eliminated.
Under this duty, the committee amasses around Rs42 crore every year but its expenses have shrunk to just Rs5 crores.
Administration said that the cess was not an essential element for the committee's survival. Official experts suggest that instead of collecting tax, committee should charge fees for its services.
The abolition of this cess would be an improvement as this will lead to reduction in cost for textile traders and exporters.
