AP textile sector on an expansion spree

Textile industry in Andhra Pradesh (AP) is experiencing an upsurge.

In a press conference, the Textile Minister G Vinod announced that the Raheja Builders is planning to build a 250-acre textile park in Hindupur in Anantapur district and the park will soon be granted the SEZ status.

In order to encourage the traditional weaving communities like Gadwal, Uppada and Dharmavaram and their techniques of weaving, the State Government is planning to secure patent, so that they can to market their products effectively. This will also help to improve designs.

The State Government is planning to set up a franchisee for the export of Pochampally materials.

There are other national and international companies who are planning to invest in Andhra Pradesh are Coimbatore-based Southern India Mills Association (SIMA), Chennai-based Loyal Textiles, Secunderabad-based DPM textiles, Noida-based Vrindavan Ltd, Sri-Lanka's Mas Holdings, and Brandix Lanka.
