Gujarat Government has planned to set up apparel training institutes to offer short-term management courses to workers of textile and garment industry.

With increase in various apparel parks and special economic zones, requirement of trained workers will increase in times to come.

Government may set up institute in Gandhinagar district, but sites like Surendranagar or Vapi would also be considered.

According to estimates, total labour force employed in the apparel industry would go up to 66 lakh by 2010 compared to 45 lakhs in 2004-2005.

Most probably, training institute will have courses in apparel manufacturing technology, knitwear manufacturing technology, pattern making, cutting techniques, production supervision, quality control techniques, among others.

Students passing out of institute would be provided placement assistance and garment units will be invited for campus recruitment.

After completion of training courses, students have to undergo industrial training for one month.
