Labour Minister Sora-at Klinprathum has acknowledged that legal adjustments are required to bring in foreign workers from the Philippines and Vietnam to ease a labour scarcity, provided the government agrees to a proposal for calling them.
Klinprathum informed that the demands of clothing industry to import Filipino and Vietnamese workers were practicable.
The proposal has been sent to Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak however, certain laws regulating immigrant workers and employment need amendment.
The clothing industry says the sector lack workforce to the tune of 60,000.
The elimination of the global textile export quota has deeply affected the industry and its impact led to cost-cutting by using cheap foreign labour, he added.
