Yesterday, first textile shipment made of naturally grown cotton was dispatched by President Yoweri Museveni for exports to US.

About 50,000 pieces of children, women and mens wear worth US $125,000 were sent through the shipment.

The cotton grown by Ugandan farmers is utilized as raw material in clothes manufactured by Phenix Logistics Uganda Limited.

The clothes sent to US are exported under African Growth & Opportunity Act (AGOA) and more clothes will be shipped to Europe and Japan.

Experts pointed out that enterprises should concentrate on converting reserve of raw materials into wealth.

Uganda also has capacity to make use of its resources to compete fully in the US market, experts added.

Government is also trying to improve infrastructure to attract more foreign investment.
