High court issues notice for not shifting leather tanneries

Recently, Allahabad High Court issued notice to Agra district authorities for not shifting leather tanneries from the city's Khatikpara area.
Petition, filed by Adarsh Khatik Samaj Sewa Samiti, will affect approximately 65 tanneries in the region.
Notice has been issued to commissioner, district magistrate, senior superintendent of police, officials of Agra Development Authority and the pollution control board.
For long time, ecologists are asking for shifting these tanneries to other place so that effluents can be treated before these are released in river.
