The delegates stressed the need to execute South Asia Free Trade Area (SAFTA) in letter and spirit.
Pakistan Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz demanded efficient market access through smooth realization of trade liberalization programme.
The meet emphasized that the implementing organs of the SAFTA should review the progress of opening the markets among each other and that the agreement should incorporate trade in services.
While the SAFTA was operational by July, 2006, Pakistan has not yet implemented the deal retaining the 'positive' list of items (restricting imports) from India citing that New Delhi has not lifted non-tariff barriers (NTBs).
