FTA talks with China likely to conclude by Apr 2008

Government sources inform that eleventh round of discussions for Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with China started Monday in Wellington. Both parties expressed optimistic views about this agreement.
Annette King, Minister of Transport, revealed in a media-briefing during her on-going tour of China, “The FTA talks are likely to complete before next April, and I hope it could be even earlier."
New Zealand was the first nation to wrap up a bilateral World Trade Organization accession agreement with China and also the first developed country to explore FTA possibilities with the Asian giant.
