As part of the measures taken to push forward Free Trade Agreement (FTA) talks between India and Thailand, a 30-member Thai business delegation, comprising officials from both government and private segments, was in India recently to search ways to solidify future trade and investment opportunities.

Poksak Nilubol, Advisor to Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, said Thailand expected to include more products in the zero duty trade lists which currently have 82 goods.

"FTA will open up doors for two-way trade between the two countries," Nilubol told Fibre2fashion, adding that India and Thailand hope to conclude the FTA by October this year.

Bilateral trade between the two countries had risen from $2.8 billion in 2005 to $3.4 billion in 2006. Nilobol said in the next 3-5 years, it should rise to $7 billion provided the FTA is signed.
