As part of their efforts to increase bilateral trade and investment, India and Sri Lanka have decided to ink a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) by October.

Announcing this today, Minister of State for Commerce Jairam Ramesh said during his meeting with Sri Lankan Minister for Investment Promotion Navin Dissanayake that both the countries must thrash out differences and an early conclusion of CEPA would ensure sustained interest of all the stake holders.

On its side, Sri Lanka invited Indian investment in many areas including apparel and textile sectors.

According to a joint statement released post-meeting, Dissanayake has also agreed to organize an investment expo in Sri Lanka with exclusive spotlight on Indian companies. Noticeable among them would be the focus on apparel and textiles.
