Recently, Cambodia Tanimex Co Ltd has signed a Memorundum of Understanding (MoU) with Wintus Group based in Chongqing city, China, for mulberry plantation in Cambodia. The China Chamber of Commerce and representatives from both Governments were present at the signing ceremony.
Cambodian land would be used for breeding silkworms and Tanimax would set up a factory for it, then, cocoons would be transported to China. However, the company has not yet allocated specific area of land for planting mulberry and the production target of the cocoon.
The Wintus Group would support mulberry plantation farms to breed silk worms in the Kampot Province. The company has experience with the same kind of business in Laos, Thailand and Vietnam during the past six years. This MoU will raise the employment rate and help in the economy growth of Cambodia.
Chongqing city, which has a huge textile industry, needs lots of raw materials and the cocoon output of Cambodia which is not high, however, has a very good quality. This venture would help both the country.
