In spite of being the world's biggest exporter of clothes, China lacks the advantage of having a brand name. Profits secured from Chinese branded clothes account for only one third compared to that of foreign brands.
Recently, a forum held in Shanghai city was participated by the CEOs of textile clothing companies. The event which emphasized the need to increase the value of Chinese clothes brand was sponsored by Chinese Development and Reformation Committee and the Economic Committee of Shanghai city.
According to the statistics of 2006, nearly 50.2 percent of branded clothes sold were Chinese of which nearly 22.6 percent belonged to Shanghai city.
Although, the Government of Shanghai city has taken a number of measures to support the local apparel brands, a lot needs to be done to further strengthen Chinese brands in the international market.
