Mr Peiris also confirmed that the Government was aiming to develop a uniform strategy that would ascertain development from the grass root levels.
Last year, the footwear and leather industry of Sri Lanka earned US $39 million from potential markets of Italy, UK and Germany. According to the Minister, Sri Lanka exports 20 to 30 million pairs of shoes with value addition amounting to 40-50 percent, generating ample job opportunities in rural areas.
