The Federal Government is undertaking a major reorganization strategy to save billions of rupees by reducing the number of organizational entities (OEs) from 411 to 228.
These OEs include departments, autonomous bodies, registered companies, statutory corporations etc. These entities would have to go through closures, mergers, privatization or even transfers to provincial governments.
In view with the policy considered by the National Commission for Government Reforms, nearly 109 entities are likely to get privatized, 33 are proposed to get transferred to provinces, 9 may get transformed as council/commission/committees, 10 are suggested to get closed down and over 35 are expected to go for mergers.
While many of these OEs have lost their significance and reason for existence, most of the others face overlapping and duplication of responsibilities.
Some of the textile companies proposed for transfer includes, Karachi Garment City Company, Pakistan Textile City Company, Lahore Garment City Company and Faisalabad Garment City Company.
The only textile committees recommended for transformation as independent body outside the purview of the Government is the Pakistan Central Cotton Committee.
