Bangladesh Government has decided to send delegates to African countries with the aim to garner support for passing its bill in the US Congress.

Passage of the bill would allow a duty free access of Bangladesh textile products to the US market. With regard to this, Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) appointed a lobbyist firm in the US that could effectively pacify the House of Representatives to pass the bill.

The firm on its part requested Bangladesh Government to talk with African countries to remove their misconceptions about loosing markets to Bangladesh if the bill is passed.

The bill titled 'The New Partnership for Development Act 2007' was introduced in the house by Congressmen Jim McDermott.

Passage of the bill would play a crucial role in deciding Bangladesh's trade surplus since nearly US $3 billion of the country's total garment exports come from the US.
