Ten Apparel Parks next year, says Textiles Secy Poornalingam

The Government is planning to set up 10 new textile parks on the lines of Tirrupur, informed Textiles Secretary R Poornalingam.
He said that though land has been acquired for 12 parks only 10 will be given the go ahead in a year's time. He was addressing the first anniversary celebration of the Textile Testing and Development Centre, Kappalur.
These parks will be set up to ensure that the textile chain completes in eliminating the weak link in the manufacturing process and promote higher exports.
The Government has announced 40 percent subsidy for each park with a ceiling of Rs 40 crore, he speaking to newspersons.
He mentioned that textile production capacity has reached US $13 million, and had to be increased to cross $50 million mark.
While the world is racing towards quota free regime by 2007, the need to upgrade textile industry assumes significance he added saying that there was no possibility of extending the deadline.
He urged manufacturers to follow the success of Tiruppur Apparel Park, which crossed turnover of Rs 3000 crore, apart from giving jobs to thousands.
Poornalingam also informed that the textiles sector attracted 100 percent investments after the government announced initiatives for modernisation.
