Industries Minister Tahmasbi slams cheap Chinese textile imports

Complaining that certain substandard products are offered at international prices in the country, emphasized Ali-Reza Tahmasbi, Minister of Industries and Mines, adding that every Iranian consumers must get quality goods.
Addressing a gathering of the members of the Textile Association of Iran, he gave a call for the industry to adhere to international quality standards. Tahmasbi sought closely cooperation between the government and the industry to solve the textile problems, particularly the labor crisis that is seriously affecting it.
When trade between Iran and China reached $10 billion a year, he said unrestricted import of cheap and low quality Chinese textiles seriously threatened the very survival of the nation's textile industry.
Substandard imports from that country amounted to 30 percent of the figure, he added.
After a recent crackdown on illegal Chinese textile imports earlier, customs offices have been notified to seize sub-standard Chinese garments that cause market disruption.
It is learnt that Textile Factories Syndicate and Customs have teamed up to prevent inflow of cheap Chinese textiles.
