US decides on sock quota from China

The Customs department has finalised on the quotas for different categories of socks being imported from China.

In a release of October 29,2005, a circular by Executive Director, Trade Compliance and Facilitation Office of Field Operations to Port Directors, Assistant Port Directors (Trade), Import Specialists, Inspectors, Entry Specialists, and other interested parties such as brokers and importers states that cotton, wool and man-made fiber socks exported by China during the period October 29, 2004 through October 28, 2005, to the US under categories 332/432/632 will be restricted to 42,433,990 dozen pair only.

The release also mentions that products exported to the United States prior to October 29, 2004, shall not be subject to the above safeguard restraint limits.

Goods subject to Category 332 and exported on and after October 29, 2004 through December 31, 2004 are subject to both Group II restraint limit and the above safeguard restraint limit.

Goods exported after December 31, 2004 through October 28, 2005 will only be subject to the above safeguard restraint limit.
