The Maharashtra government has formulated a new textiles policy in a bid to rejuvenate the sick textile sector in the state. This was revealed by the state textile minister, Mr Naseem Khan to the legislative assembly.

The new policy would be put forth before the cabinet committee for its approval and subject to approval, budgetary provisions would be sought. Earlier in January, Dayanidhi Maran, Union Textiles Minister had announced setting up of Textile Parks in the cotton-rich Vidharbha and Marathawada regions.

These parks are expected to be epicenter of textile value-chain where farmers would be able to sell their produce directly to be later converted in to finished goods within the park. Training centres will also be set up to impart training to the youth and later be absorbed in the units of the park.
