New Delhi will host the Asian Textile Conference, ATXCON 2005, on December 1-2, 2005.

This will be a good opportunity for Asian countries to deliberate and develop an integrated policy for the region's textile industry and thus expand its global market presence.

The Confederation of Indian Textile Industry (CITI) is the organizer of this conference.

After the elimination of quota restrictions, it is felt essential to think over issues like resources and intermediary products needed by the industry to bring greater efficiency for the future.

Talking about the equipment needs, Indian textile sector would require 15 million spindles in the next five years, said Vinod K. Ladia, former Chairman of CITI, and Chairman, Shree Rajasthan Texchem Ltd.

Current domestic production registered two million spindles per annum therefore, five million extra spindles were required to import, said Ladia.

Asian countries have their core competencies, and a plan was required to develop these competencies and ensure sufficient market share for each country, Ladia said.
