Brazil has suspended sanctions it had imposed on US imports of goods until 2012, over its long pending demand to reduce subsidies, the US administration provides to its cotton farmers.

The US farm law which provides high subsides to its farmers and has also been considered to be illegal by the World Trade Organisation (WTO) is set to expire in September 2012.

According to a Brazilian envoy to the WTO, these retaliatory measures could be revoked if the US did not keep up to its commitments to review these cotton subsidies.
