The Union Ministry of Textiles has taken a decision to provide the necessary help to the carpet weavers from eastern Uttar Pradesh. The Ministry is likely to issue Weaver's Credit Cards (WCC) to 30,000 carpet weavers in the Mirzapur-Bhadohi belt, under the Carpet Cluster Scheme.
The Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee had announced the Carpet Cluster Scheme for Mirzapur in the 2009 Budget. WCC is one of the first steps to be taken under this scheme. The Ministry is likely to recognize 30,000 marginalized weavers for the same, with the help of its office in Varanasi.
