EU caught on wrong footing in WTO talks on farm policies

The EU has come under increased pressure to slash its farm subsidies at a key World Trade Organisation (WTO) summit, with developing nations and big agricultural exporters already blaming the Europeans for a looming failure of the talks.
Negotiators at the WTO meeting, taking place in Hong Kong until Sunday (18 December), on Friday reached a partial trade deal, although it does not address the most contentious issue of EU and US agricultural subsidies.
