The aim of the 30-member council is to revive the domestic textile industry amid high levels of imports and make it viable, Idris Bugaje executive secretary of the National Board for Technical Education, said at the launch event in Abuja.
”If this sector can organise and ensure proper certification of artisans, apprentices, I think this sector can be the money spinner for Nigeria. We are very hopeful with the calibre of people assembled as members, we shall turn the fortunes of this sector around.” he was quoted as saying by domestic media reports.
The scope of reference of the council includes skills standardisation, reducing skills gap, increasing opportunities, developing skills plan and maintaining inventory, advocacy and influencing policy as well as promoting excellence in training and service delivery.
