Pakistan will sign trade agreements with Uzbekistan this month to explore over $90-billion worth of export potential in Central Asia to achieve an export target of $35 billion for fiscal 2021-22. Prime Minister Imran Khan is leaving for Uzbekistan on a three-day visit from July 13 to 15, during which the two sides will sign transit and preferential trade agreements.

"Both countries have agreed to allocate dedicated space in Gwadar and Tashkent for establishing warehousing facilities to help each other in the transportation of goods to other regional countries," media reports in Pakistani quoted prime minister's commerce adviser Abdul Razak Dawood as saying in Karachi.

Pakistan has planned to transport goods under the 1975 Convention on International Transport of Goods Under Cover of TIR Carnets (TIR Convention). The government is planning offering loans to the transporters to update the country's dilapidated logistics network, he said.

Pakistan has witnessed record-high exports of $25.3 billion, including $15.5 billion in textile, in fiscal 2020-21—nearly $4 billion higher than the $$21.4 billion achieved in 2019-20.
