Indonesia’s ministry of industry is implementing a machine restructurisation programme for the textile and textile products (TPT) industry to improve competitiveness. With the fabric industry as the focus, it targets 13 companies, with a budget of Rp 4.7 billion this year, the ministry's acting director general of chemical, pharmacy and textile industry Ignatius Warsito recently said.

The programme aims at making companies use more modern, efficient and eco-friendly machines and equipment in accordance with the ‘Making Indonesia 4.0’ road map.

The programme is once again being implemented after 2021 and 2022, when 23 companies had benefitted from it, according to a news agency.

In 2022, the export value of the TPT industry hit $13.83 million. The TPT industry grew by 9.34 per cent and contributed 1.03 per cent to the national gross domestic product (GDP), he said.

The funds will be used to provide reimbursement of price discounts of 10 per cent of the total investment in machinery and equipment originating from imports or 25 per cent for those produced in the country.

Other policies implemented to maintain the TPT industry's performance include the improvement of commodity balances and raw material supply chains, implementation of the so-called industry 4.0, Specific Natural Gas Price, import control and imposition of trade remedies on the TPT industry, Domestic Product Use Programme (P3DN) and enhancement of skills through the ‘Link and Match’ vocational programme, Warsito added.
