Chairman of the Exporters’ Association of Sri Lanka (EASL), Ranil Goonetilleke, recently emphasised the importance of Sri Lanka focusing on entering more Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) that are negotiated in favour of the country.

Speaking at a joint press briefing organised by the National Chamber of Exporters of Sri Lanka (NCE) and other export-related chambers at Galadari Colombo, Goonetilleke highlighted the potential for export growth through strategic FTAs.

He noted that small and medium entrepreneurs are facing challenges due to lack of government support, particularly in accessing knowledge, technology, and equipment.

Goonetilleke stressed the need for mechanisms to assist these entrepreneurs effectively.

Jayantha Karunaratne, president of the National Chamber of Exporters Sri Lanka, echoed Goonetilleke’s sentiments, emphasising the urgency of effective policy making to address stagnation in merchandise exports and drive sustainable economic growth.

He underscored the importance of collaborative efforts between the government and the private sector to navigate challenges and modernise outdated laws and regulations hindering competitiveness.
