Textile units to submit data to help formulate policy

The textile commissioner has been selected as statistics officer to source the information from all textile units, under the Collection of Statistics Act 2008. The data will be vital for analysing status and emerging trends in the sector, a senior official told a news agency. The official also said that this data will help in the formulation of policies across the sector.

Information related to the size and capacity of the company, production, fibre, product type, number of employees and standards adopted while manufacturing items will be sourced. Registration will be a one-time process, however, the companies will need to share their data every month.

It is possible to register as well as share data online and the units can even make use of facilities at powerloom service centres or regional officer of the textile commissioner.

The upcoming national textile policy aims to generate $300 billion in textile exports revenue by 2024-25 and create up to 35 million new jobs. (KD)
