Responding to a recent anti-dumping investigation by the European Union (EU) against certain fibreglass material producers from Egypt and Bahrain following a complaint by the European Glass Fibre Producers Association (APFE), UK’s GRP Solutions has joined several European importers and end users to form a consortium to oppose any anti-dumping duty measures.

Composites businesses in the United Kingdom employ over 40,000 people. The creation of tariff barriers and a reduction in free trade with economies like Egypt will only increase costs for UK composite businesses and damage employment both in the United Kingdom and in Egypt, the company said.
“Having experienced the impact of anti-dumping duties on Chinese material in 2011 and the dramatic increase this had on glass fibre prices, it is important that we make our voices heard. Doing or saying nothing, may be interpreted by the EU that we are not concerned,” said Brian Harpur, managing director of GRP Solutions.
Expressing surprise over the investigation announcement of the European Commission last month, China’s Jushi Group, the world’s leading fibreglass manufacturer, also assured full cooperation. (DS)
