President Donald Trump yesterday announced he will cancel his planned tariff on European allies over the US wish to acquire Greenland after he and the NATO chief agreed to a 'framework of a future deal' on Arctic security.

“Based upon a very productive meeting that I have had with the Secretary General of NATO, Mark Rutte, we have formed the framework of a future deal with respect to Greenland and, in fact, the entire Arctic Region. This solution, if consummated, will be a great one for the United States of America, and all NATO Nations,” Trump announced on Truth Social.

The turnaround came after Trump told the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos that he wants to get Greenland, but would not use force to do so.

He has long said Washington needs the world's largest island to counter threats in the surrounding Arctic Ocean from Russia and China.

“Additional discussions are being held concerning The Golden Dome as it pertains to Greenland. Further information will be made available as discussions progress. Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, and various others, as needed, will be responsible for the negotiations,” Trump’s social media post added.

"The day is ending on a better note than it began," Danish Foreign Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen said in a statement. "Now, let's sit down and find out how we can address the American security concerns in the Arctic while respecting the red lines of the Kingdom of Denmark," he added.

Meanwhile, Greenland has asked its citizens to be prepared for a possible invasion.
