Uzbekistan has offered to exempt Afghan goods from customs duties. At a meeting with an Afghan delegation in Tashkent, it evinced interest in cross-border trade and involving Afghan investors in partnerships. They discussed possible revival of the textile industry in Afghanistan and simplifying foreign currency control, visa, tax and customs regimes.

The recent meeting between Uzbek Government officials and Afghan industrialists discussed the prospects of further expansion of economic cooperation between the two countries and training of Afghan personnel, Uzbek media reported citing the website of the foreign trade ministry.

The Uzbek side suggested starting work on establishing a free trade regime between the countries.

Recent years have witnessed an upward trend in two-way trade between the two countries. (DS)
