Vietnam’s gross domestic product (GDP) grew by 6.93 per cent year on year (YoY) in the first quarter (Q1) this year, the highest Q1 rate since 2020, according to the National Statistics Office (NSO).

NSO director Nguyen Thi Huong termed it a positive growth rate, as the figure exceeded the government’s initial target for the quarter, but fell short of the revised target due to rapid global changes and uncertainties.

The industry-construction sector expanded by 7.42 per cent YoY in the quarter, contributing 40.17 per cent to gross domestic product (GDP) growth during the quarter.

In the industry-construction sector, the added value of the industry went up by 7.32 per cent YoY and contributed 2.39 percentage points to GDP growth in the quarter. Processing -manufacturing remained a growth driver of the whole economy as such activities rose by 9.28 per cent YoY and contributed 2.33 percentage points to the GDP growth.

Transportation and warehousing grew by 9.9 per cent YoY, contributing 0.67 percentage point to the GDP growth, domestic media outlets reported.
