Taiwanese Government has accepted Formosa Plastics Group's (FPG's) plan for conducting safety checks at its naphtha cracking facilities in the fire-hit Mailiao complex.
The agreed plan will see suspension of operations in stages and the completion of all safety checks by the end of August 2012, according to the Industrial Development Bureau.
A series of fire incidents at some facilities of the FPG's Mailiao complex between July 2010 and August 2011 triggered public protests over safety standards.
In response, the Government had ordered closure of some facilities at the complex and also asked FPG to submit a plan to conduct safety checks of the entire complex in stages.
The partial shutdowns led to a decline in Taiwan's export growth in August. However, some of the closed units have been reopened in the intervening period.
