Chinese ACN & ASF imports dive in Jan

Chinese imports of acrylonitrile (ACN) acrylic staple fibre (ASF), acrylic tow and acrylic tops fell massively in January 2012 from December 2011.

January ACN imports reached 40,020 tons, down 15.05 percent from a month ago, according to customs data.

Of these ACN January imports, 4,000 tons were from Japan, 14,652 tons from South Korea, 9,372 tons from Taiwan and 11,997 tons from the US.

The average price of ACN imports was US $1,759 / ton in January 2012, up $15 / ton over the import price of $1,744 / ton in December.

Imports of ASF reached 6,503 tons in January 2012, down 22.71 percent month-on-month or 1,911 tons lower than 8,414 tons in December.

In January, China imported 7,042 tons of acrylic tow, 6,442 tons less than 13,484 tons in its previous month or a decline of 47.78 percent.

China imported 225 tons of acrylic tops in January 2012, down 148 tons or 39.68 percent compared with 373 tons in December.
