A liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) leak from a pipeline, forced Maruzen to shut a cracker at its Keiyo Ethylene plant this week.

"The cracker located in Chiba was shutdown on July 24 and will be restarted as soon as the problem is sorted out", an official revealed to fibre2fashion.

The Keiyo Ethylene plant has a production capacity of 768,000 ton per annum and is the only cracker operated by Maruzen.

Maruzen Petrochemical holds a 65 percent stake in the Keiyo Ethylene unit, while Sumitomo Chemicals and Mitsui Chemicals hold a 22.5 percent stake, each.
