Japan's naphtha imports plunge in August

Japan’s imports of naphtha, used in the production of ethylene, fell 23 percent year-on-year to 1.17 million tons in August 2012, the data from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry revealed.
 
On a month-on-month basis, Japan’s naphtha imports declined 5.6 percent over imports of 1.24 million tons in July 2012.
 
In terms of value, Japan imported US$ 987.17 million worth of naphtha during the month of August, registering a decrease of 8.27 percent from its imports worth US$ 1.076 billion made in previous month.
 
The average price of imported naphtha in August was US$ 844.8 per ton, a decline of 2.92 percent from the average import price of US$ 869.5 per ton in July, according to the Ministry.
