Chinese PTA imports decline in August

A decline was observed in imports of Purified Terephthalic Acid (PTA) by China during August 2012.
 
China imported 324,900 tons of PTA (Tariff no. 29173611) in August, which is a decrease of 138,500 tons compared to the same period last year, according to customs statistics.
 
August imports were 26,800 tons less than the PTA imported in July 2012.
 
The average PTA import price was US$ 997/ton, down 16.73 percent compared to August 2011, but an increase of 6.4 percent over July 2012 price.
 
The import of other terephthalic acid (Tariff no. 29173619) in August was 94,500 tons, which was 15,300 tons less than the quantity imported during the same month last year, and a reduction of 7,900 tons from July 2012 imports.
 
In August, the average import price was US$ 971/ton, a decrease of 17.42 percent year-on-year, but an increase of 4.67 percent month-on-month.
