Chinese PTA imports decline in September

A decline was observed in imports of Purified Terephthalic Acid (PTA) by China during September 2012.
 
China imported 325,400 tons of PTA (Tariff no. 29173611) in September, which is a decrease of 188,900 tons compared to the same period last year, according to customs statistics.
 
September imports were, however, 500 tons more than the PTA imported in August 2012.
 
The average PTA import price was US$ 1,048/ton, down 18.55 percent compared to September 2011, but an increase of 5.11 percent over August 2012 price.
 
The import of other terephthalic acid (Tariff no. 29173619) in September was 104,000 tons, which was 9,500 tons less than the quantity imported during the same month last year, and a reduction of 6,900 tons from August 2012 imports.
 
In September, the average import price was US$ 1,022/ton, a decrease of 18.05 percent year-on-year, but an increase of 5.19 percent month-on-month.
