Chinese nylon staple fibre prices weaken slightly

A slight downtrend was witnessed in the Chinese nylon staple fibre market during the first fortnight of the current month.

In East China, the ex-factory price of nylon staple 30D x 65mm was about 23,000 yuan/ton from November 1-16, while in Central China, the price was slightly lower at about 22,000 yuan/ton.

The demand and supply of nylon staples fibres remained flat. While sellers showed high enthusiasm, it was not supported by demand. Overall, the market showed wait-and-watch mode and downstream buyers bought only on immediate demand.

On raw material side, the production of caprolactam (CPL) in China increased from the normal 800,000 tons per year to 1.10 million tons in 2012. So, there is adequate supply of raw material.

During the fortnight, the spot price of CPL in mainstream market was in the range of 17,400-17,500 yuan/ton and the weakening market provided less support to nylon staple fibre prices.

In addition to frequent decline in CPL price, the nylon slice market also continued with its declining trend. Hence, nylon staple prices dropped slightly owing to price conductivity of industry chain.

At present, CPL market, both in terms of RMB and US dollar, are weak. However, nylon chip market is stable. Market analysts expect the nylon staple fibre to remain stable in the short-term, with a slight price adjustment.
