Dalian govt announces shifting of Fujia PX plant

The Government of Dalian in China’s Liaoning province has announced that it is going ahead with shifting of the paraxylene (PX) plant of Fujia Chemicals.

The government’s decision has come in the wake of media reports a few days earlier, which said the PX plant had secretly resumed operations.

Fujia Chemicals suspended PX production in August 2011 after local residents protested against the project and demanded that the plant, located in Jinzhou industrial park, be moved out of the coastal city.

The PX plant is part of the government’s efforts to revive the old industrial base in Northeast China.

However, after a protest by local residents in August last year, the local government initiated a study for relocation of the project.

Subsequently, a relocation plan was prepared by experts, and its feasibility study and assessment was completed in July 2012.

Paraxylene is used as a raw material in the manufacturing of polyester fabrics, and it can cause nose, eye or throat infection.
