The Oman Oil Refineries and Petroleum Industries Company (ORPIC) has shutdown its Sohar polypropylene plant for scheduled 46-day maintenance.

The 17.7 million rial investment in the shutdown, also called ‘turnaround’, includes three-yearly heavy maintenance programmes at ORPIC’s Sohar polypropylene plant and refinery, and will improve environmental performance and efficiency, according to a company statement.

The ‘turnaround’ operations will involve wide-ranging maintenance at the Sohar polypropylene plant to ensure reliability, integrity and availability of the plant to sustain operations during the coming years.

The company said it has made sufficient arrangements to meet the domestic demand at Sohar, Muscat and Salalah, during the maintenance period.

Post-maintenance, the polypropylene plant having a capacity of 350,000 tons is expected to become operational in April.
