The exports as well as imports of spandex by China increased in March 2013, compared to a month earlier, according to the latest data.

In March 2013, China exported around 4,806 tons of spandex, showing an increase of about 931 tons or 24.01 percent compared to exports made in February. The average export price during the month was US$ 7.09/kg.

During the same month, China imported about 1,166 tons of spandex, registering a rise of 826 tons or 41.17 percent compared with February. The average import price was US$ 9.05/kg.

In recent months, the demand for spandex has increased greatly in the Chinese domestic market, which is a major reason for around 41 percent month-on-month jump in imports posted during the month under review.

Spandex or elastane is a synthetic fibre known for its exceptional elasticity. It is strong, but less durable than its major non-synthetic competitor, natural latex.
