China's May PTA imports decline substantially

In May 2013, China imported 191,800 tons of purified terephthalic acid (PTA Tariff no. 29173611), showing a substantial decline of 194,100 tons from the quantity imported during the same month last year, according to Customs statistics.
 
May 2013 PTA imports were 14,500 tons less than the volume imported in April.
 
The average PTA import price in May 2013 was US$ 1,043/ton, registering a drop of 9.59 percent year-on-year, and 3.64 percent month-on-month.
 
For PTA (Tariff no. 29173619), the quantity imported by China was 59,000 tons in May this year, showing a decrease of 55,600 tons from the volume imported in May last year, and a dip of 2,200 tons compared to April 2013. In May, the average import price was US$ 1,021/ton, down 9.69 percent year-on-year, and 5.01 percent month-on-month.
 
China’s PTA imports have declined drastically, as several new PTA projects have come online over the past twelve months.
