China's textile raw material development faces hurdles

The development of raw material for the textile industry in China is currently facing few hurdles, according to an expert.

Although China possess more than 50 percent of world’s fibre processing capacity, there are some factors that are inhibiting raw material growth, according to Gao Yong, vice president of China Textile Industry Association.

The Government of China has already eliminated its national temporary cotton purchase and storage policy, but about 12 million tons of inventory still exists, which continues to have an impact on the downstream textile enterprises.

Secondly, the development of man-made fibre in China is also not satisfactory, although Chinese synthetic fibre production accounts for about 70 percent of world production. In fact, the Chinese man-made fibre is passing through an excess phase where there is overcapacity in some types of fibres.

Since there is less differentiation in chemical fibres produced in China, the textile industry has been unable to completely replace natural fibres with synthetic ones.

Moreover, from energy conservation and recycling perspective, the reuse of fibre or fibre recycling is at a nascent stage.
