Ban on small and medium-scale enterprises, which supply abaca, essential raw-material for handicraft and furnishing products to Malacanang has been lifted, informed sources of Department of Trade and Industry.
The ban has been removed as handicraft makers and exporters have been incurring heavy losses due to delay in raw material supply, Peter Favila Secretary of Department of Trade and Industry stated.
The ban was imposed on abaca to prevent the spread of diseases that affect young abaca leafsheats but now there is no threat of disease to the general public as present supplies of abaca are cultivated in disease-free areas, informed Favila.
