An interactive programme on obstacles faced by Butwal Spinning Mill was arranged by Reporters Club Nepal, Lumbini Zonal Co-ordination Committee Butwal. Speakers stressed on reopening the spinning mill which has been non-operational since July, giving this duty to industrialists, entrepreneurs, labourers and civilians.
Speakers held negligence of the management responsible for closure of the mill. Due to closure and insufficient resources, the mill's 380 labourers and staff were not given their wages for last three months.
During the event, journalist Mahendra Thapa submitted a report on the spinning mill to MP Surya Prasad Pradhan, Mill Director Jiwan Prasad Ojha and All-Party Committee Chairman Nawaraj Shrestha.
Pradhan said they will appeal to the Government to take charge of the mill as it has debts of over Rs600 million. Ojha added that the mill will support functioning of cottage industries in Butwal.
Committee Co-Convener Tej Kumar Pathak and Chamber Ex-President Nirmal Prasad Lakaul also spoke on the issue at this programme, with Club Chairman Prakash Khanal being the chief guest.
Butwal Spinning Mill was founded in 2039 with technical aid from China. It had a yarn production capacity of nine tons per day.
