Yarn prices in June move up

China's textile production maintained a rapid growth in 2007. From January to June, yarn output achieved 9.2732 million tons, an increase of 19.51 percent over the same time last year.

The average price of 32s cotton carded yarn was 18,515 yuan per ton in June, showing a growth of eight yuan over the previous month.

Polyester staple fiber price slightly declined in June with average cost registered at 11,601 yuan per ton, less 126 yuan, a drop of 1.07 percent.

The spread between mainland standard cotton and polyester staple for the month was 1,754 yuan per ton, enlarging 510 yuan per ton from the previous month.

Pure cotton yarn price had kept a weak trend until late June. In the first six months, 32s pure cotton yarn price stood at 18,521 yuan per ton, up by 1,086 yuan per ton. However, a decline of 5.54 percent was registered compared to same period last year.

The average price of polyester staple read at 11,174 yuan per ton, rising 471 yuan, an increase of 4.40 percent.

The spread between mainland standard grade cotton and polyester staple was 2,353 yuan per ton.
