In the first half of 2007, China's exports of textile raw materials amounted to US $1.38 billion, an increase of 60.3 percent over the same period last year.
Of these, major export products of polyester chip and chemical fiber augmented by 64 and 67 percent, respectively and exports of wool and wool tops together swelled 35.7 percent.
Raw materials imports reached 2.183 million tons, worth $3.76 billion, down 35 and 24.4 percent respectively, year-on-year. Of these, cotton imports marked 1.177 million tons worth $1.6 billion, showing around 52 percent fall in value and volume terms.
Cotton imports from the US declined 60 percent. Global chemical raw materials import increased slightly by three percent.
Raw material imports prices rose globally. Chemical Fiber price upgraded by 9.2 percent, silk rose 42.5 percent, wool gained 25.8 percent, wool top advanced by 14.7 percent, cotton and polyester chip increased by 0.9 percent and 2 percent, respectively.
