Tomorrow, on Mahatma Gandhi's birth anniversary, the Government of Tamil Nadu plans to aggressively promote khadi in schools and colleges.
Chairman of State Planning Commission, M Naganathan, informed the reporters that the government aimed to increase khadi sales, so as to enhance income and provide healthier lifestyle for the weavers.
He also asserted that the government would provide powerlooms to modernize the production of khadi. However, he stressed that effective marketing is equally important for achieving the desired results.
Mr Naganathan also assured that the government will give kahdi precedence over other matters and take substantive measures to make it a popular phenomena. Report on the improvement of khadi outputs together with that of the Planning Commission will be submitted to the government at regular intervals.
