The average price of domestically produced cotton grade-328 was quoted at 13,638 yuan per ton on November 8, 2007. Viscose Staple Fibre (VSF) 1.5 D × 38mm was offered at 22,200 yuan per ton. This was around 8562 yuan higher than cotton grade 328. The average price of Polyester Staple Fibre (PSF) 1.5 D × 38mm, was quoted at 11,800 yuan per ton, which was 1,838 yuan lower than cotton grade 328.
Since last week, picking of cotton picking has entered into its last phase and cotton market continues its consolidation, but unginned cotton and lint prices show greater differences. Due to strong market of by-products, unginned cotton price still remains high at about 6.2-6.80 yuan per kg.
While, in the lint market, high or low-grade cotton prices are given different treatment. Due to rainy cold weather in some cotton areas by the end of September, high grades lint cotton is expected a low produce. High cotton grade is quoted at about 13,900 yuan per ton, while the lower one remained stable with sluggish market sales.
Many textile enterprises are inquiring about import market, as hope to procure low-priced foreign cotton.
